    Let's Go To College

    Let's Go To College

Over the past five years, we have made many strategic decisions on how best to grow the company. And over the past 3-4 months, we have made college and universities a priority for us at ISlide. The biggest question is, what took us so long?

    Well, it’s not that easy.

We initially started with a NBA License in 2015 and it went well. I wouldn't say we blew it out of the water but it was certainly worth extending for another three years and I'm glad we did. It continues to be a huge success. As we grow into the next chapter of our company, our focus should be college. College kids live in sweats and slides. The college licensing world is also a beast and took us a while to really wrap our arms around it. With various licensing agencies, buying institutions, and independents looking for "easy wins," we had to have a clear strategy before diving into our next major initiative.

As a company we have employed two approaches to the college world. The first, which is the most obvious, is applying for licensing at each school directly. This is what we have been doing with Michigan State, Alabama, and LSU to name a few. Once we get designs approved, they go live on our website and are available for anybody to purchase. And today we can add The Ohio State University to the mix, another major school that we are excited to have on our team.

Our second strategy is more complicated. In the fall, ISlide partnered with a sales agency to sell directly into campus local shops and bookstores. Under this approach, we are able to get into retail outlets without having to go through the time-consuming process of obtaining each individual collegiate license and selling into each account.

The market for college gear is something that will always be there for us. There will always be a continual re-supply of customers demanding college gear as new students are being accepted and attending these schools every year. However, ISlide does not believe “grabbing a piece” of the college apparel market is enough. The college market is something that we fully plan on dominating, and it all begins with licensing.

The "athleisure" world we live in isn't going away for a while and we know people LOVE their college. Whether they are lifelong fans, part of a club or varsity team, or even an alumnus, people have so much pride in their school. They also identify heavily with everything that speaks to their campus. With our mantra of Stand In What You Stand For, we couldn't ask for a better marriage.

An Open Letter to ISlide - Kicking Off 2018

An Open Letter to ISlide - Kicking Off 2018

    - CEO and Janiitor

2018 is going to be ISlide's best year. This isn't being cocky or setting our expectations too high but it's just a reality. We have worked too hard as a team to put ourselves in the best possible position to succeed that there is no other choice. This is what the last year of our lives looked like. We have moved factories overseas and created a more efficient process for each Slide we make. We moved our domestic headquarters into the city of Boston in a facility that not only can handle us now but even for exponential growth. We implemented a year long ERP system and grew from 8 to 25 employees. Even with all of this madness in 2017, we still grew by over 30%.

Work Hard - Play Hard. Everything about ISlide is full of passion and heart. And all of us Stand In What We Stand For.It wasn't easy and we had to make some tough decisions but in the end it has put us in the best possible position. I often think about the effect of growing too fast or too slow and what it can do to a business. So often startups only think about sales and that’s it, but I've also seen many fail because they had a tough time handling the logistics of either scenario. Our operations is our engine and it has to be a well oiled machine so the rest of the company can drive the business. We can't ever take for granted the opportunity we have in front of us.

What drives me more than anything this year, 2018, is the thought of regret. The regret of not working hard enough. The regret of not growing the business the way we want to grow it. The regret of expanding beyond on our culture. The regret of not sharing the vision for the company in a detailed enough way.

This is our our year to let the world know who we are.

From suitsnslides to shooting jumpers, we’re ready for everything 2018.

    I SLIDE FOR #9 PAUL//PGO

    I SLIDE FOR #9 PAUL//PGO

Paul's Favorite Time Of The Year

Tailgating with the crew. It's a way of life -- and my favorite end of summer event. A time that we come together as an Islide family and celebrate our accomplishments for the summer season. A way for us to thank our interns, who have grown with us. We all appreciate their drive and effort.

Four years' now we have done our "PGO" event: The Paul Gibson Open.

    Tailgating. Beer. Friends. Games. Food.

There is nothing like spending a summer afternoon with friends and family; cold brew in hand and the grill turned up.

Maybe next year, I'll see you there.

    National Relaxation Day ISlide Edition

    2017 National Relaxation Day

It’s National Relaxation Day, and we want to give you a look at how we relax and still do our job at “The Lab.” One of our favorite sayings is “work hard play hard,” we keep this motto in mind today as we step into the office. Here are 5 of our favorite ways to stay relaxed and chill in the office.

    1. Hoops

One of our favorite ways to relax at work is our hoop created by our designer, Emily. Whenever we feel our minds may be wandering, we always have the opportunity to shoot a few hoops to get us back on track. Every Friday we do an ISlide team knockout session, keeping things fun and relaxed.

    1. Tunes

Music keeps us relaxed and fresh. Each day different DJ’s from the office create custom playlists. We love to “bump and grind.” It gives the office that uplifting mood booster.

    1. Hit the Weights

Pumping iron keeps us rejuvenated. Don’t believe us? Just watch our video below. ISlide has a dumbbell that is ready to use at any point free of charge.

    1. The Mezzanine

ISlide also has an indoor lounge equipped with turf - a great place to grab a kick-back in one of our oversized lounge chairs. It's where we get most ideas flowing while in a comfortable place with couches, chairs, TV, etc.

    1. Achievement Beverage

In “The Lab” we sometimes have a few beers to finish off the workweek. Often each employee cheers with a beer to our accomplishments for conquering the world that week.

    I Slide For #6: Sam// Gotta Eat

    Careers at Islide, Boston MA

Working for ISlide has been pretty much a constant in my life. After doing my second, (of three) co-ops back in 2013, I went back to school at Drexel, in Philadelphia. All the while, I was following everything we were doing on social media, and keeping up with the team. Working at ISlide was incredibly fun, but even more rewarding. My first pair of slides ever said “Gotta” on the right, and “Eat” on the left slide.

Since that pair, I’ve got three more with the "Gotta Eat" theme, and I think it represents me well. First of all, you HAVE to eat. You just gotta.

I like writing spoofs of songs and making them about ISlide. You can even find a very old song from when I was an intern on Youtube.

I’ll drop a snippet of the next banger here, a takeoff of Ne-Yo’s “So Sick”:

Gotta change what i put on my feet / now that I’m at home

Cause right now I really need / me some RPL foam

And I know it’s an expense / And I’m really poor

But it’s the only way that I can slide, anymore

    (It’s ridiculous)

It’s been tough, for some reason I just

    (Can’t get other slides)

    And I’m starting to think

    (Enough is enough)

No more walkin' round, with my head down

I’m so done with wearing, all these awful slides

And I’m so sick of Nike,

    And ad-id-as

    Those slides are trashy,

    And they really suck

Said I’m so sick of Jordans, uncomfortable,

So you know — I can’t wear those slides anymore.
