A Message from the CEO: "What I'm Thankful For"

A Message from the CEO: "What I'm Thankful For"

As one of the most beloved holidays quickly approaches, we are often asked to take time to reflect on the many blessings in our lives. We can all agree that having the opportunity to gather as family and friends, across generations and culture over wonderfully prepared food is a blessing in itself. But the list just begins there.

This holiday season we asked our founder and CEO to write a few notes on what he's most thankful for. Well, with a big 4th Quarter of traveling and a few, big, company announcements, he sent over these few words...

"Thanksgiving is by far and away my favorite holiday. I’m thankful for more and more things every year. First for my family. I am extremely lucky to have both me and my wife’s parents,  alive and healthy. As well as my family, in general, to be healthy. With so many things that can happen to us it’s important we live life to the fullest.

Work wise, I am so thankful of the people we have every day coming in and working so hard. It’s not easy finding good people and we are very fortunate to have such a great group.

Lastly, I’m thankful to be able to eat more than I should and end it with a great nap. Love this day."

    Let's Go To College

    Let's Go To College

Over the past five years, we have made many strategic decisions on how best to grow the company. And over the past 3-4 months, we have made college and universities a priority for us at ISlide. The biggest question is, what took us so long?

    Well, it’s not that easy.

We initially started with a NBA License in 2015 and it went well. I wouldn't say we blew it out of the water but it was certainly worth extending for another three years and I'm glad we did. It continues to be a huge success. As we grow into the next chapter of our company, our focus should be college. College kids live in sweats and slides. The college licensing world is also a beast and took us a while to really wrap our arms around it. With various licensing agencies, buying institutions, and independents looking for "easy wins," we had to have a clear strategy before diving into our next major initiative.

As a company we have employed two approaches to the college world. The first, which is the most obvious, is applying for licensing at each school directly. This is what we have been doing with Michigan State, Alabama, and LSU to name a few. Once we get designs approved, they go live on our website and are available for anybody to purchase. And today we can add The Ohio State University to the mix, another major school that we are excited to have on our team.

Our second strategy is more complicated. In the fall, ISlide partnered with a sales agency to sell directly into campus local shops and bookstores. Under this approach, we are able to get into retail outlets without having to go through the time-consuming process of obtaining each individual collegiate license and selling into each account.

The market for college gear is something that will always be there for us. There will always be a continual re-supply of customers demanding college gear as new students are being accepted and attending these schools every year. However, ISlide does not believe “grabbing a piece” of the college apparel market is enough. The college market is something that we fully plan on dominating, and it all begins with licensing.

The "athleisure" world we live in isn't going away for a while and we know people LOVE their college. Whether they are lifelong fans, part of a club or varsity team, or even an alumnus, people have so much pride in their school. They also identify heavily with everything that speaks to their campus. With our mantra of Stand In What You Stand For, we couldn't ask for a better marriage.

An Open Letter to ISlide - Kicking Off 2018

An Open Letter to ISlide - Kicking Off 2018

    - CEO and Janiitor

2018 is going to be ISlide's best year. This isn't being cocky or setting our expectations too high but it's just a reality. We have worked too hard as a team to put ourselves in the best possible position to succeed that there is no other choice. This is what the last year of our lives looked like. We have moved factories overseas and created a more efficient process for each Slide we make. We moved our domestic headquarters into the city of Boston in a facility that not only can handle us now but even for exponential growth. We implemented a year long ERP system and grew from 8 to 25 employees. Even with all of this madness in 2017, we still grew by over 30%.

Work Hard - Play Hard. Everything about ISlide is full of passion and heart. And all of us Stand In What We Stand For.It wasn't easy and we had to make some tough decisions but in the end it has put us in the best possible position. I often think about the effect of growing too fast or too slow and what it can do to a business. So often startups only think about sales and that’s it, but I've also seen many fail because they had a tough time handling the logistics of either scenario. Our operations is our engine and it has to be a well oiled machine so the rest of the company can drive the business. We can't ever take for granted the opportunity we have in front of us.

What drives me more than anything this year, 2018, is the thought of regret. The regret of not working hard enough. The regret of not growing the business the way we want to grow it. The regret of expanding beyond on our culture. The regret of not sharing the vision for the company in a detailed enough way.

This is our our year to let the world know who we are.

From suitsnslides to shooting jumpers, we’re ready for everything 2018.
