Slide Into Intern Life: Kent

June 24, 2016

ISlide: Being an intern at Islide is  probably one of the hardest, most unconventionally internships you will ever have. And also one of the most rewarding internship you will ever hold. That said, it isn't for everyone. If you're thinking you can just come in late every Monday and half-ass your work, you're in for a world of pain. Specifically, a lot of wall sits, burpees and pushups. Yet, if you're ready to work and give it your all, your time will be extremely rewarding. Justin and the Super Six will work you for everything you have everyday, but the experience you will get when your time is done is like nothing else.

Personally, I love the fact that I get to work on all different types of tasks everyday. For example, yesterday I was doing research for interactive touchscreen products by talking all morning to several different companies about their prices and special features trying to find the best deal. Later, I worked with Tori on redoing all the discount codes for the new site. Then throughout the afternoon, I moved all the Gels to their new home upstairs and packed up several dozen orders. At the end of the day I was gassed, but knowing that someday I hope to run my own business that all of these tasks will really help me down the road. You can sit in a classroom and listen to a lecture about sales and marketing all you want, but there is nothing more valuable to see a business in action and actually participate in its growth.

Another great part of Islide is the atmosphere. Its definitely one the coolest workspaces out there with the basketball hoop out front, the faces of famous athletes painted on the walls around you, and the barbell sitting in the lounge. During the summers, every Friday we have fun things ranging from cookouts to beach days to blow off some of the steam worked up during the week.

ISlide definitely isn't an easy internship. You work hard every single day, but you will get so much out of it that all the sweat is quickly forgotten. Also, everyone here keeps it real. If you're doing something bad, they will have no problem letting you know that it needs some work. On the other hand, if you're doing good work, it will be acknowledged. This is a great part of the company because it keeps everybody working to their highest ability. What you will learn here through your hands-on experience applies to just about any type of job you may have in the future. The main thing is that everyone here works as a team with one common goal: Making ISlide the best. At times there may be yelling and strong language, but in the end everyone here is family and willing to give up countless hours in order to achieve that goal.
